Carpool Crusade
Who knew she cared so much about carpools?
The Utah Eagle Forum's Gayle Ruzicka testified before the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee Friday, protesting a bill that would require children to use safety restraints, such as booster seats, until the age of eight.
Her reason for opposing the bill? Carpools.
Though Ruzicka says she believes in safety restraints for kids and her grandchildren are securely buckled in them, she says such a law would create a serious problem for people in carpools.
"Once they turn 5-years-old, children are usually in some kind of a carpool," Ruzicka says, adding it would be too inconvenient for parents to find out the age of each child and to coordinate booster seating arrangements.
She reasons this way: "I would just tell the parents whose children are under eight 'I'm sorry, there's no way I can take on this kind of responsibility, so I won't be able to drive your child.' So children that age won't be able to be in carpools. That would be a real burden -- say on mothers who work."
The bill won committee approval anyway.

I'd like this bill to pass, mainly because I wouldn't want Gayle R. driving my kid around anyway. I'm glad she wouldn't be willing to go through the hassle of finding out how old her passengers are.
As the saying goes, "Stupid is as stupid does." Does this ever fit Gayle R.
