Salt Lake's Josh Burkman on UFC Fight Night
It's going to be a notable couple of weeks for Utah fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Tonight, Josh "The People's Warrior" Burkman faces off against Mike "Quick" Swick in the main event of Ultimate Fight Night Live on Spike TV. Burkman's last octagon appearance was an entertaining split-decision win over Forrest Petz, while Swick is coming off a hard-fought decision loss to Yushin Okami.

Both fighters have a reputation for putting on a high-energy, high-impact show. Both started off on The Ultimate Fighter reality show, but Swick really made his name with two lightning-fast knockouts of Alex Schoenauer and Gideon Ray. People took notice of Burkman after some crowd-pleasing wars with Josh Neer and Karo Parisyan.

Tonight's show shouldn't be much different. Expect a battle, but know that the fight could end at any second in any manner. Also on the card: Patrick Cote vs. Drew McFedries, Alvin Robinson vs. latest TUF winner Nate Diaz, and Michihiro Omigawa vs. Thiago Tavares. If there's time, I hope they can air the Joe Veres vs. Corey Hill fight. I'm curious how far Hill has come since the show, when his inexperience was a major factor despite what could be major advantages over other lightweight opponents.

As I alluded to earlier, there's another UFC Utah connection in the coming weeks. Jeremy Horn will step in to face Nate Marquardt on Feb. 2 at UFC 81. For those who missed it, Jeremy recently fought Cort McGee in the Ultimate Combat Experience at EnergySolutions Arena, but he's one of the most experienced MMA fighters around and fought Chuck Liddell a few years ago for the UFC light heavyweight title. More on that later.
