The UFC recently released a rather large list of fighters that they have released. One of those fighters was the UCE and Utah’s own Brandon “The Murderer” Melendez.
Brandon hits as hard as anyone in his weight class and, win or lose, he always puts on an entertaining performance. Brandon’s name on the UFC’s “recently released” list is no surprise since he made and was granted a release from his contract a few months back; however, what did surprise me was his decision to do it in the first place.
How many “top-level” shows are there that Brandon will have a chance to sale his wares? Yes, the numbers are expanding but with the release of a large number of UFC caliber competitors it would seem that being able to claim status as a “UFC Veteran” just isn’t the big deal it was just a couple of short years ago.
I don’t know what is going on in Brandon’s life. I don’t know what deals he may have in the works or even if he has any plans to fight in the future. But I have to wonder, if he wants to continue to fight MMA, if his move away from the UFC was a wise won.
What do you think?
