Knights and wizards
Yes, there will be another "Batman" movie, and we have a new Joker.
"The Dark Knight" will start shooting early next year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It's a sequel to last year's "Batman Begins," and brings back star Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne and director Christopher Nolan.
Here's the interesting part: Heath Ledger, most recently seen in "Casanova" and "Brokeback Mountain" (for which he received an Oscar nomination), will play The Joker.
I think it will work. Ledger's charisma is magnetic, and he's got the acting chops (check out his surfer-dude in "Lords of Dogtown") that most pretty-boy movie stars don't. (For those who think the choice of Ledger is a sacrilege to the memory of Jack Nicholson's portrayal in Tim Burton's "Batman," I advise you to go back and look at the 1989 version - it doesn't hold up that well, and Nicholson is basically doing Nicholson.)
In the meantime, check out this trailer for the next Bale/Nolan film, "The Prestige," coming this fall.

OK, when authors like Stephen King and John Irving are getting worked up about the potential demise of a fictional character, you know we're through the media looking glass.
But, at a charity book-reading Tuesday in New York, King and Irving begged J.K. Rowling not to kill off Harry Potter in the seventh and final book in her best-selling series. (Here's the story.)
Speaking of Harry Potter, Warner Bros. just announced that Helena Bonham Carter is joining the cast of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," due out next summer. "Bonham Carter will play Bellatrix Lestrange, Sirius Black’s cousin and a Death Eater, who is one of Lord Voldemort’s followers," the release said. The announcement's a bit late, since Bonham Carter spilled the beans in an interview in Time magazine this week.
But if you can't get enough Harry Potter in your life, check out this T-shirt - so hip that even Moby is wearing one.
