Today is actor Josh Brolin's 40th birthday. It's also the 40th birthday of Chynna Phillips, formerly of the pop group Wilson Phillips. And, had he lived, Christopher McCandless - the adventurer whose life and death were portrayed in the book and movie "Into the Wild" - would be turning 40 today, too.
The Cricket doesn't mention these birthdays idly, or to steal a lame segment from "Entertainment Tonight." He's just fascinated by the notion that the cosmos aligned in such a way that disparate human beings, famous for different reasons, were born on the same exact day.

(Brolin and Phillips were also born in the same city, Los Angeles - but that's not so odd considering Josh's father, James, is a famous actor and Chynna's parents, John and Michelle, were founding members of The Mamas and the Papas.)
There are other examples. One of the coolest is that Paul McCartney and Roger Ebert were both born on June 18, 1942.
But for trivia geeks and history geeks, the best-known birthday pairing is also marked today: On Feb. 12, 1809 - 199 years ago today - Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were born.
