In need of a Mametian response
In the current Vanity Fair, the back-page "Proust Questionnaire" poses philosophical questions to playwright/director/author David Mamet (in time to promote his upcoming action-drama "Redbelt"). Here's the first question and answer:What is your idea of perfect happiness? My idea of perfect happiness is a healthy family, peace between nations, and all the critics die.The most appropriate response is, alas, unprintable in a family publication - but it's a two-word phrase very familiar to fans of Mamet's work.

David Mamet is an overrated jerk...
...but Sean, you can still change. You don't have to die. You can evolve from defining yourself as a critic. You could someday be a cineaste rather than be counted among the droves who care about metacritic or RT ratings.
