No, "Speed Racer," no
What the heck happened with "Speed Racer"?Warner Bros.' first tentpole of the summer sputtered off the starting line this weekend, scoring just $18.6 million at the box office - far behind the $50 million "Iron Man" took in its second week, and even behind the $21.2 million scored by the much-smaller-budgeted romantic comedy "What Happens in Vegas."
For a movie that made a reported $120 million to make, that's a bomb by any measurement.
Now the blame game starts. Did the reviews and the Internet buzz kill the movie? Was "Iron Man" too strong? Was the title too obscure for the all-important teen demographic?
The real culprit (other than the fact that the movie kinda sucked) is the marketing. Watch all the ads for "Speed Racer" and ask yourself: Who is this movie for? It's too manic for little kids, too silly for older kids, and too dumb for grown-ups. Who's left?

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer... the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
