Jeffs may have had a peculiar way of getting ready for it, but other fundamentalist Mormons share the view that the end is near — and so do many members of the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
One of the best-selling books at the LDS Church's Deseret Book stores is "50 Signs of the Times and The Second Coming" by David J. Ridges, a former church educator. I picked up a copy the other day. I'm still reading through it, but did come across something I wanted to share.
Much has been made of the fact that FLDS faithful avoid red clothing, which they believe is a royal color reserved for the Savior.
Turns out, they are basing that belief on a passage in the Doctrine & Covenants, one of the Mormon scriptures.
Below is an excerpted section from a question and answer section in Ridges' book:
Question: What color will He [the Savior] be wearing [when he returns]? Why will He wear that color?
Answer: D&C 133:46-51
46 And it shall be said: Who is this that cometh down from God in heaven with dyed garments; yea, from the regions which are not known, clothed in his glorious apparel, traveling in the greatness of his strength?
48 And the Lord shall be red in his apparel, and his garments like him that treadeth in the wine-vat.
51 And I have trampled them in my fury, and I did tread upon them in mine anger, and their blood have I sprinkled upon my garments, and stained all my raiment; for this was the day of vengeance (where the law of justice must be satisfied) which was in my heart.
Red, wine-vat, blood. Alrighty, then.
