Thanks to her appearance on the Oprah Show a week ago, Jessop's memoir ''Escape'' is turning into an instant hit.
It will debut at #11 on the New York Times Hardcover Bestsellers list this Sunday, according to a Broadway Books publicist.
It currently is listed at No. 49 on Amazon.com's list.
What does this mean for Carolyn? Quite simply, more money. Alan T. Sorensen, an associate professor at Stanford University, analyzed the effect of making the bestseller list in an article in Stanford Business Magazine. Sorensen teaches economics and strategic marketing at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
In the article, written by Marina Krakovsy, Sorensen said that making the list boosts sales of first-time authors by as much as 57 percent. He notes that the ''Oprah effect'' may be even bigger than the bestseller list impact.
Whatever, whichever. Carolyn's book is a hit.

It was a very interesting book, and a peak into a culture we outsiders rarely get.

I was born in Colorado City but wasn't raised there. It was interesting to see similarities in the ways we were raised. Especially playing Apocalypse. I think that was much more fun than tag, btw.
I'm on the 4th chapter already and I just got my hands on the book yesterday.
I'm happy for Carolyn!
I'm ecstatic that Carolyn is able to make money by telling her story. The book not only helps others...I hope the financial rewards serve to take away some of the pain and improve her situation in life. Just shows that good can come of a bad situation!
