Questions raised about the call
UPDATE: The link below is now fixed.

The description of the unidentified gir's call that led to the raid on the YFZ Ranch is being questioned by some people. One person told me this morning the call sounds like ''bunk.''

Why? Much of the verbage is wrong for the FLDS sect. For example, they don't refer to ''the outsider's world.'' Non-FLDS members are ''gentiles,'' the caller pointed out. And the caller had a question: Wouldn't a doctor who treated a girl for broken ribs have been required to investigate whether the injury was accidental or the result of abuse?

Here is a blog that is raising similar questions .

There is absolutely no doubt that the call was fabricated!! The accused hasn't been in Texas, doesn't have seven wives, borrowed cell phone? Ya right, you can't tell me that with today's technology that they can't find out exactly where that call came from. You also can't tell me that such a massive amount of force and raid logistics hasn't been in the works for months. The whole motive is to get evidence for upcoming trial in AZ or something of that sort or else it's just plain and simply maliciousness by Texas and the Baptists. There's a lot more I could say, but I'm sure everybody here at least most I've seen, are perfectly happy to trample the rights of FLDS and don't see this for what it really is, and that's a huge human rights injustice. Perhaps when people take issue with the way their are raising their children and come to take them, they will wake up!!

Hmm. Your link isn't working for some reason.

I wouldn't doubt that the phone call is phony, it doesn't seem likely that a 16 year old from YFZ would have access to a phone, trust the outside enough or know who to call. Also, can't the track the phone?

I don't understand how they're doing all of this based on 1 phone call. How many times have we heard stories of someone calling in a report of abuse, that report was ignored, and the child was killed? Far too often. Why was this one phone call so special?

I'd like to know how the girl got a local phone number to a shelter? Wouldn't it have been more likely that she'd call 911?

Maybe I'm recalling in error, however, I seem to recall a report, probably on CNN, that the call had come from an adult woman on behalf of the teenaged girl. Not from the girl herself. Perhaps that explains the odd language, the knowledge of whom to call, etc.
As far as broken ribs go, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to take the word of a teen, supported by the word of the parent, that the injury was sustained in an accidental manner. If the teen was believable, and the injury consistent with the story, there would be no reason to investigate any further.
Further, if the caller alluded to additional instances of abuse, or other children involved, it would be enough for a court to order a full scale investigation. At the least an investigation to 'see' if there were grounds to go further. Maybe that's what occurred here.
At first it was a smaller number of children and young women removed. At least some of them were interviewed. Subsequent to those first interviews the decision to move the court to order full removal happened.
I believe I read somewhere also that the Governor had been apprised of the plan for the early removal, in advance.
I would also venture to guess that because of the close, close scrutiny that this is, and will continue, to recieve, that the child welfare folks are dotting all their "i's" and crossing all their "t's". They have probably brought in folks to conduct the interviews who have been carefully trained in appropriate interview techniques for abused children. They aren't going to risk the problems associated with untrained personel conducting interviews that led to the child-care debacle(s) of the eighties.

Concerned: Reports I have read (and I am reading entirely too much on this) was that her husband had the same name as the other fellow, but was younger.

(Not a defense, just an observation)

Brooke, thanks again for keeping us updated. Even though the legitimity of the call is being raised or the girl in question can't be found, the law allows the authorities to proceed if they "stumble across" a crime in the course of their investigation. For example, finding a number of girls who are pregnant and under the age of 16 will be enough to trump the validity of the warrant.

Brooke,
How can we help the situation? What do these women and children need from us?

concerned from uk(how ironic)::
1. You don't know any more than I do about whether the call was real or not and you shouldn't speculate about facts that you have little information on...Raid Logistics? A couple of buses and some cops? Please!! And BTW by all reports, minimal force was applied..

2. When forced sex of minors is taking place and countless other abuses, you darn right they should take action..Or maybe you want your kids subjected to those abuses?

3. Abuses like these are common knowledge with the flds..It's no stretch of the imagination that this stuff was going on...Just simply listen to any number of people you escaped the cult and lived to tell about it.

4. Next time your so quick to ridicule the way things are done in Texas, remember there would be no UK if Texas and other US states hadn't shed their blood defending you against your enemies...Or maybe we shouldn't have "trampled the rights" of Nazi Germany? HUH?

Thanks and have a nice day..

Local news states that the search was based on tips from an informant who the police had used for a number of years.

That may just be boilerplate though.

these folks are sick, sick, sick. As a father I can't imagine allowing any of my 3 daughters to be married and have sex at age 13. All these men need to be castrated and sent to prison where the will find out what a real spiritual marriage means. Say hi to bubba!!!

No evidence, wrong man. guns. artillery, ambulances. Give me a break. The government have been following these people since the 1940's and if they haven't figured out anything it should be that they are a peace loving people. It makes you wonder if the government was hoping they could fire on them and maybe have a Waco? It is pretty scary. These people are honest hard working and private. They think a little differently than we do but here are some facts. Statistics show that 13 year olds and up have sex at school or with school mates often. They are drug users, alcoholics, violent you name it. They are children with too much money and too much time. In contrast the children of FLDS are taught the value of hard work and the value of time. These children are not a part of the problem, they are part of the solution. They are children and families I would love to have as neighbors because I would feel safe and know there would be no crime. How nice would that be?
If they take the children away can we track them and if they become pregnant at an early age or become drugusers or alcoholics can we sue the government? I promise you it will happen. Please help return the children to their familiesl
