Up in a tree

Photo by Salt Lake Tribune Photographer Trent Nelson

What do you do when you get bored with sitting outside a courthouse waiting to testify to a grand jury?

If you are Teresa Jeffs, you climb a towering live oak.

Teresa, the 16-year-old daughter of FLDS leader Warren S. Jeffs, got four women and several attorneys to help her haul a picnic table over to the tree. Despite her long blue dress, Teresa clambered up and found a nice branch where she perched about 30-feet off the ground.

Her mother Annette watched. So did a handful of law officers guarding the grounds. One even pulled out his cell phone and took a picture.

It's been that kind of day. Not much to do but wait. Or check out the view from several stories above ground.

Sounds better than having to check in here, to see what you know of there!

She's very pretty.I hope all goes well with her in court today with her and her unwanted attorney.

Shes definitely not shy around all that security and media cameras.

Doesn't look like she is sad or has been abused to me.

She is a beautiful young woman. I hope the tree gives her some peace and strength.

I hope she had a grand ole time climbing that tree!!!!
And Brooke, thank you so much for keeping us grounded in the human side of all this...including the little joys, as they come along!

I love it! This wonderful on several levels:

First off, this is just another indication that these women and girls are not the repressed robots that the media and Texas want us to think they are. They are real live human beings, who laugh, who have fun, who enjoy life.

Secondly, one can dress modestly and still be physically active. I have known girls who were long dresses much like the FLDS who do everything in their ankle-length dresses, from working the farm, riding horses, playing sports, bicycling, and much more. Modest dress is not an impediment and is not worthy of the derision of society.

Thirdly, this young woman is a very attractive, spunky little gal. She is sassy, independent, capable of thinking for herself, able to act for herself, and still be a perfect lady. Like all of the other FLDS ladies who have been publicly visible lately, Teresa proves the haters to be wrong in every instance of the stereotypical portrait they have tried to show America.

The FLDS people are such a fine example to America of faith, modesty, and courage. I have always defended their rights and have always admired them, and now through this case, I have come to feel a real spiritual kinship with these wonderful people.

The contrast between the openness of sitting in the tree, and the testifying in a closed secretive court house, makes this picture priceless. Who says a picture isnt worth a thousand refuted accusations..

She is not in the court of Wacky Walther. I guess that would make me smile too.

God Speed Teresa!

Hold fast and hard to your core values and do not let bigots compromise them.
