Getting a Little Testy
KSL Radio personality Doug Wright was scheduled to be the master of ceremonies Saturday at the Utah County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner, its big fund-raiser of the year.

But Wright has been disinvited.

It turns out that a group of Republican legislators, mostly from Salt Lake County, decided to boycott the event if Wright was the MC. They told lobbyists that if they already bought tables to the dinner, don't send people to fill them. And those who had not yet bought tables were told to refrain.

At first, it appeared the Utah County Repubs were going to hold fast and not let anyone tell them who they could have as the host of their event. But once the bottom line was threatened, they caved.

The Republican legislators protesting the Wright appearance did so because one of their colleagues, Rep. LaVar Christensen, R-Draper, is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Congressman Jim Matheson in Utah's 2nd Congressional District.

There is speculation that Wright might also run as a Republican.

He has gone to Washington and met with brokers and possible campaign donors. And he has appeared at several Republican events recently. He still has his show on KSL every day, however, and some potential opponents believe it is unfair for him to get all that free radio time if he indeed runs.

Cheers,
Paul Rolly
