Executive director Spencer Jenkins and political director Bill Fagergren have both quit. Jenkins resigned to take a job as communications director for the Utah Department of Technology Services. Fagergren left to take a job in the private sector.
The front runners to replace Jenkins are Michael Deaver, who Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. appointed to the State Tourism Office, and Jeff Hartley, a former aide to Congressman Chris Cannon.
Meanwhile, there will be another Republican defection soon.
Sen. Al Mansell, who until last year served as president of the Senate, has informed colleagues he will not run for re-election this year. But don't look for a big change in the makeup of the Senate. Mansell has a handpicked successor.
You'll remember Mansell, a realtor, used his clout in the Senate to pass bills beneficial to developers and realtors. The candidate he has endorsed to take his place is Wayne Niederhauser, a prominent Sandy resident who is a CPA and Mansell's former business partner.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly

Mansell's bill 170 last year stunk to high heaven--talk about self-interest. Thankfully, it was realized what it really was.
