Cook has support from UFIRE and other anti-immigration groups angry at Cannon for his stands they say are too soft on illegal immigrants. Cook reportedly has been promised money from these groups and will receive backing from Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, the leading voice in Congress for tougher policies on illegal immigrants.
Cook does not live in the 3rd District. He lives in the 2nd, represented by Democrat Jim Matheson. But he has business property in the 3rd District.
This will be his 12th run at public office. He has run for Salt Lake City Mayor, the State School Board, twice for governor, once for Salt Lake County Commissioner, five times for the 2nd Congressional District (successfully twice), and Salt Lake County Mayor.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly

I don't really care who runs against Cannon. I will vote for that person, either in the Republican primary or I will vote for whom ever runs against him in the general election. Anyone is better then Cannon. I am in the 3rd district and a Republican but I would vote for a Communist before I would vote for Cannon.
Why do people (like yourself) use the word anti-immigration. If you don't support
flooding our country with illegal aliens and you do support the rule of law, how is that anti-immigraion? I would say those that support illegal immigration are anti-legal immigration.
I don't want the groups around like the ones who were going to check each Hispanic person's ID coming in to vote. I respect Merrill and wish him good luck. I'll have to wait and see what he says before I support him or not.
I'm not a big fan of Tancredo's either, but I am against illegal immigration.
