GOP Shakeups
Watch for some shakeups in the Republican House leadership positions this year.
The scuttlebutt on the Hill is that Rep. Dave Clark, R-Santa Clara, will run for House Majority Leader in the fall after the November elections, a seat currently held by Rep. Jeff Alexander, R-Provo. Meanwhile, rumors are afloat that Alexander will not run for his leadership position and will back Rep. Becky Lockhart, R-Provo, instead. Lockhart currently is the House Rules Committee chair.
Clark's possible run for majority leader would create a problem for Rep. Steve Urquhart, R-St. George, who briefly toyed with the idea of running against Sen. Orrin Hatch for the Republican nomination this year. Urquhart, who is in House leadership, was rumored to run for majority leader after he announced he would not run for the Senate. But he and Clark are both from Washington County.
