Calls and e-mails have gone to the media, county clerks offices and the Utah elections office from worried voters that they would have to leave their fingerprint with election officials when they go to vote.
Herbert's campaign tells people to leave their print on Utah by using the new touch-screen voting machines. Several actors in the TV ad say what their most important issues are, then touch the screen, leaving a clear fingerprint.
Salt Lake County clerk Sherrie Swensen says the issue has come up several times when she has spoken to senior citizen groups and some have expressed concern about whether they should even go to the polls.
Swensen has assured the concerned citizens that they will not be leaving their fingerprints. And the Utah elections office assures that it is just a slogan, meaning that if you vote, you have a chance to leave your imprint on future policy-making in Utah.
Of course, you still probably won't be able to get into closed Republican caucuses at the Legislature, but go ahead and vote. It's safe and they won't document your fingerprint.
Cheers, Paul Rolly
