The idea is that, even though not even a tinge of scandal has ever touched Christensen's opponent, Democratic incumbent Jim Matheson, the fact that he is a Democrat apparently means he must be morally repugnant and the Democrats will immediately bring evil to the country.
Never mind all the scandals involving Republicans lately, most notably stalker of teenagers Mark Foley, the former Republican Congressman from Florida.
While Christensen's rhetoric seems a little over the top, and extremely partisan, it shouldn't surprise anyone who has followed his political career.
Christensen had a Republican opponent in House District 48 in Draper four years ago and, suddenly, that candidate's morals became a major campaign issue.
The other Republican was Art Haddow and shortly before the GOP convention, residents in that district received an anonymous letter chiding Haddow because he was not of the LDS faith and therefore would not understand the moral fiber of the majority of constituents in that neighborhood. The letter also attacked Haddow's wife because she was a Democrat and, therefore, by association, pro-abortion.
After Christensen defeated Haddow in the GOP convention, his Democratic opponent, Trisha Beck, suffered similar insinuations.
Although Beck is and always has been an active member of the LDS Church, campaign rhetoric attacked her LDS credentials and insinuated that because she is not a member of the church's priesthood (women are not allowed to hold the priesthood), she couldn't fully understand the Mormon theology. The rhetoric also implied that because she was a Democrat, Beck somehow was morally flawed and must be pro-abortion.
Christensen won the seat and now is out for bigger fish to fry, using, apparently, the identical tactics that brought him victory before.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly

deha poo if you ask me. What is up with mathescum voting for the torture bill?
What is the deal here? Is everyone supposed to wink and say that mathescum really is a dem. but he must act republican so we vote for him and then he votes to allow bush?? to decide who gets tortured and how they do it.
This must be more of goldjones' doings. I mean ... keeping the dems so stupid they fall for it.
Come on! Christensen is not insuating that Matheson is "morally" bad. What is he saying is: The Democrats continue to vote for abortion, same sex marriage, etc. etc. Issues, that don't fall in line with the values that the majority of Utahns want or believe in. When Matheson is in Utah, he's all for Utah. But when he is in Washington, HE IS A DEMOCRAT, and votes with and for the Democrats.
Let's focus on the fact that Matheson voted for Nancy Pelosi (reason enough for him to lose my vote). He also brags of his not accepting a pay raise and giving it to charity instead. Let's look further into that issue. I'll bet he takes the raise, writes a check to charity, and gets the tax right off! I'm certain Mr. Christensen donates plenty to charity as well. But, Matheson doesn't make any of that completely clear. I wish more people knew of Matheson's true voting record. Most people are not aware that he voted against the Budget Deficit Bill. Which included using the massive resources in the Uintah Basin. When he voted against that bill, he voted against the Uintah Basin and against Utah. Not to mention his family's involvement in the Grand Staircase - which stopped Kane County from becoming one of the richest counties in the nation. Yes, we need to protect our natural resources, but not at the expense of every Utah citizen and their livliehoods!

But Chris Cannon sure aint no Mormon!!! Even though his district sure is! The most Mormon District in the country! 90%
1. He and his brother Joe aided and abetted Farmers/Zurich/BAT in shutting down a HUGE Discrimination Complaint brought by his fellow Mormons!!! He took HUGE amounts of money for his services; maybe they helped him pay off that 1.7 million dollar campaign loan!!! Judas got a raw deal-only 40 pieces of silver!
2. He took huge amounts of money from the tobacco industry!!! His nickname should be the "Smokin Mormon!"
3. Abramoff wanted to put casinos on Indian lands in Utah! That's why he and Cannon were such good buds!!! Cannon's staff member worked with the guy!! Cannon took thousands more from Abramof supported PACS. We found $8,000 without looking! Plus the $2,000 he gave back to Abramoff and the $2,000 he gave back to his Abramoff buddy!
4. Geesh!! He even got $2,000 from the "Victoria Secrets" PAC. We hope he gets a discount!
Lets see, Traitor, Tobacco, Gambling and Titulating Laungerie!!! Look at all the great things he's done for his fellow Mormons!!!!
