The Taxpayer Association has been a long-time supporter of the development of charter schools. Its president, Sen. HowardStephenson, R-Draper, has been one of the strongest supporters of charter school legislation in the Utah Legislature.
U.S. Charter Development's manager is listed with the State Division of Corporations as Glenn Way, a former state legislator from Springville. He has been in partnership in building and financing charter schools with former State Rep. Jim Ferrin of Orem and Rep. Mike Morley, R-Spanish Fork, who led the fight for legislation
allowing for and expanding charter schools as part of Utah's education system.
Jerman has been with the Taxpayers Association for a little over five years, which seems to be the typical tenure for Stephenson's number two person there. Former vice president Howard Headlee left after about five years to go to work for the Utah Bankers Association and Greg Free, before him, left after about the same tenure to work for the Utah Mining Association. Free now works for Merit Medical,
owned by Utah Republican National Committeeman Fred Lampropoulos.
Jerman, whose last day as vice president will be May 4, says he will still do part-time work for the Taxpayers Association, putting out its newsletters, working on it's blog and helping with periodic reports and analysis.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly
