Shakeup at the Legislature
Word is leaking out this morning that John Massey, the long-time head of the Legislative Fiscal Analyst's Office, is leaving that job in July. There is no word yet on why he is leaving or where he is going, but sources say an official statement will be issued later today.

The Fiscal Analyst advises the Legislature on the costs of programs and how proposed legislation will affect the state budget. The office has sometimes found itself in controversial situations by attaching fiscal notes onto bills that make those bills harder to pass because of what the the Fiscal Analyst estimates it would cost.

Bill sponsors have taken umbrage from time to time over the amount of money the Fiscal Analyst has estimated their bill would cost.

Cheers,
Paul Rolly

By "Word is leaking out this morning . . ." you probably meant the official E-mail he sent to legislators and staff announcing his retirement after 20 years of service.

John Massey is a kind, smart gentleman who will leave a void that will not be easy to fill.

We'll send the press release - and probably post it to the Senate Site - in the next hour or so.
