The Ins and the Outs
Here is a little summary of the activities of our beloved politicians which should provide insight on just what politics is all about these days and how we end up choosing our leaders who impact our lives.

A fund-raiser was held at the Fiddler's Elbow in Salt Lake City last week for the benefit of Republican State Sens. John Greiner of Ogden and Wayne Niederhauser of Sandy. In Niederhauser's case, it was to help him repay a more than $100,000 loan the developer made to his own campaign last year. The fund-raiser, attended mostly by lobbyists with a handful of legislators, cost $500 a person.

State Senate President John Valentine, R-Provo, is having his annual Valentine's Day in May fund-raiser for himself on the 19th of this month. It starts at 7:30 p.m. at the McCune Mansion in Salt Lake City. The cost: Two tickets for $300; six couples for $2,000; 10 couples for $10,000.

Republican Congressman Rob Bishop is holding a fund-raiser for himself at the Salt Lake Bees baseball game June 8. That costs $1,000 per couple for dinner and the game tickets, but $2,000 for the tickets purchased by a PAC. You can be a dinner sponsor for $5,000.

Meanwhile, a group of politicians had organized a fund-raiser at the Fiddler's Elbow to help defray medical expenses for Michael Duncan, a Democratic politician who ran for the Salt Lake County Council who was suffering from terminal cancer. Organizers included Democratic State legislators David Litvak and Jackie Biskupski; Democratic County Council members Randy Horiuchi and Joe Hatch, and former Republican Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman.

The cost for that one: $50.

Unfortunately, Duncan passed away last week, before the fund-raiser could be held.

Cheers,
Paul Rolly
