The Long, Hard Search
If you think it was difficult getting the details worked out for the Rocky Anderson-Sean Hannity debate scheduled for this Friday, check this out.

Morry Holland is an air traffic controller and someone who likes to get actively involved in his community. So he started the "House of Comments" where he gets people together for discussions or debates and has secured the Panorama Room in the University of Utah's Student Union building for his events.

He decided to hold a debate between Anderson and someone who disagrees with the mayor on the issues of the war in Iraq and impeachment of the president.

Anderson accepted right away. Here's what happened after that.

Holland contacted Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, Congressman Rob Bishop, State Sen. Curtis Bramble, talk show host Bob Lonsberry, Republican State Chairman Enid Greene, Davis County Republican Chairman Tod Weiler, former GOP State Chairman Joe Cannon, Sutherland Institute Director Paul Mero, Republican activist Ron Fox, Salt Lake City Councilman Dave Buhler, Hinckley Institute of Politics Director Kirk Jowers, Brigham Young University political science professors Ray Christiansen and Ralph Hancock and Utahpolicy.com publisher Lavar Webb.

They all declined.

Holland says Shurtleff, Bishop, Bramble and Lonsberry all indicated they would like to participate, but their schedules didn't allow it. The others simply declined.

So Anderson debated Alex Bennett, a public speaking instructor at Everest College in West Valley City.

Cheers,
Paul Rolly
