lured in people
thinking they were getting anti-voucher information only to find
pro-voucher propoganda instead.
Long-time Republican operative Mark Towner set up the site,
and he says the main pro-voucher group, Parents for Choice in
Education, had nothing to do with it.
The Web site appeared to be a friendly confine for those
opposing vouchers, but it was just the opposite.
A series of bloggers, doing their own investigative work,
concluded and reported that Towner, who has been a Republican Party
officer and is involved in many party operations, to be the source
behind the Web site.
Towner, in an e-mail, indicates the ploy was a sting operation
to find out just what people would be logging onto the anti-voucher
Web site. He says that by using the ploy, he discovered education and
public employees using their government e-mail addresses to log on to
the site. He says he even caught Mike Mower, a top official in Gov.
Jon Huntsman's office, as one who visited the site and professed to be
anti-voucher.
Towner is no stranger to controversy. He sought and received a
restraining order against fellow Republican Mike Ridgway from getting
near him or his family. He also tried to set up a political
fund-raiser for Attorney General Mark Shurtleff using the Pirates of
the Caribbean theme. But Shurtleff nixed the idea after Towner
included a "wench auction" as one of the activities.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly

Perhaps, then, Mark would care to explain a $5,000 payment from PCE to SG Consulting for "web services"? (SG Consulting shares Towner's home address.) Are we to believe that Towner got paid by PCE and then, on his own, setup this "sting" operation? Seems a bit on the unbelievable side.
Unbelievable indeed. And I heard he told Tiffany at Deseret News and entirely different story of why he sent the "spam."
No question that Towner was (or is) on the PCE payroll. That's in their report filed with the Lt. Gov. office.
Sting operation ... I can't even wrap my brain around that excuse. Sting operation?
It's called a "bait and switch" and it's what dishonest sales people do to foist lemons onto people.
Boy, PCE really can pick 'em, can't they?
I want $5,000 and all PCE ever gave me was a stinking pen.
Dear Lisa Riley Roche aka mata hari, I'm very surprised that you would disclose a confidential between myself and Tiffany. Since I have not spoken to Paul Rolly, his take on the situation is his own. What Mr. Rolly failed to disclose is all the information collected is in the possession of the Attorney General and the Lieutenant Governor's office for possible legal action. Tiffany has had this information since yesterday. To Mr. Harris, PCE approached me in June 2007 about obtaining data, email security, website security consulting. The $5,000 payment received in September was the balance outstanding of that June invoice. You can either accept the truth as I have explained, or you can continue to make baseless false allegations against me and I will be forced to seek legal remedies.
To JM Bell, bait and switch, please explain? Did you actually read the emails. I told the recipient exactly what I was doing.
Let me get this, Mark got paid for "website security" yet he was unable to even setup apache to keep it from directory listing, one of the most basic security measures. Ha! That doctorate is really paying off Mark. I am just glad you are using it to harm PCE. Let us real web professionals help defeat this horrible legislation.
Sting Operation? (Delusions of grandeur scored by Mission Impossible theme?) Why is it every time Towner is caught with his lack of ethics down, it's a sting operation?
Somebody's getting stung here, that's for sure.
Something smells!
