Shoot to Kill
Utah Republicans apparently prefer killing things to going to sporting events or concerts, or even hanging out with each other.

During the live auction at Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.'s $500-per-plate fund-raising gala at the Grand American Hotel on Saturday, the hunting trip to Alaska to shoot big-horn sheep went for $21,000. That was donated by Don Peay, founder of Sportsman for Fish and Wildlife.

But Larry Miller's donated auction item, which was a package deal including front-row tickets to a Utah Jazz game, tickets to the Alan Jackson concert and tickets to an auto-racing night at Miller's raceway, had a hard time attracting bidders.

The auctioneer started at $5,000, but he got no takers. He dropped to $3,500. Nothing. Finally, he lowered the opening bid to $1,000 and got a few bites. It eventually went for $3,000.

State Republican Party Chairman Stan Lockhart donated tickets for two to attend the Republican National Convention and hang out with the delegates next year in St. Paul, Minn.

That also attracted little interest at first, but finally a few hands started going up and it went for $5,000. It might have done better had the offer included a night of shooting timberwolves.

Cheers,
Paul Rolly

Oh come on Rolly, Republican's don't shoot Timber Wolves, that makes a hole in the pelt! Now if we were talking about Spotted Owls, I got a great Over/Under 20 gauge that works real good.

All the Best,

Mark
