Knight has been the sixth-term Republican Utah senator's right top staff person for about a decade. She came to Hatch's office as a volunteer at the end of the first George Bush administration in the early 1990s after she had served in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She eventually was hired on as a paid staffer and worked her way up to chief of staff.
By leaving before the next session of Congress convenes in January, she will be eligible to be a lobbyist in Congress.
Beginning in January, senate staffers, as well as senators themselves, will not be allowed to lobby Congress until they have been out of their jobs for two years.
Watch for Hatch to promote someone within his existing office staff to take Knight's place.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly
