But, hey, it's not too late to change your mind.
Now that Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. is leaving for China and the new governor, Gary Herbert, will have to defend his seat in a special election next year, Shurtleff might have a better chance in that race, if you just look at finances.
Shurtleff has about $71,000 in his attorney general's campaign account and another $90,000 in his Law Day PAC, which he can draw from for campaign cash. That compares to $3,000 Herbert has in his campaign account, according to the latest disclosure form.
But Shurtleff can only spend the $161,000 he has at his disposal on a state race — as in running for governor, for example. He cannot spend money he raised for a state account in a federal campaign, which means in a race against Bennett, who as an incumbent can raise millions, Shurtleff will have to start from scratch.
So, $161,000 already in the bank compared to nothing?
It's worth a second look.
