Bennett has been taking positions in the Senate of late to show he too is a true conservative in the Utah sense of the word, but you know his challengers will paint him as the moderate, which for some reason seems to be a dirty word in Utah Republican circles.
But here's an interesting twist.
Bridgewater and Shurtleff supported John McCain, the moderate, in last year's presidential race. Bennett supported Mitt Romney, the conservative who was favored by about 90 percent of Utah Republicans, according to the primary results in this state.
In fact, Bridgewater, who was a paid consultant on McCain's campaign, is also closely associated with Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., who since his re-election last fall, has shown his stripes to be quite (here's that ugly word again) moderate.
Cheers,
Paul Rolly
