Judge Memorial: 81st season; 35th playoff appearance (46-25); 9 championships (1948, 1949, 1959, 1963, 1970, 1972, 1973, 1981, 1983); last title game: 1993; championship game record: 9-4 (lost in 1969, 1971, 1975, 1993).
Under Gil Cordova, the father of current Judge coach James Cordova, the Bulldogs made the finals five straight years from 1969 to 1973, winning three titles. Only two other schools have more consecutive appearances (Skyline, 9, Kanab, 8).
JM hasn't won as many as 10 games in a season since going 12-1 in 1981.
Logan: 89th season; 42nd playoff appearance (43-36); 5 championships (1978, 1988, 1989, 2000, 2005); last title game: 2005; championship game record: 5-8 (lost in 1920, 1921, 1931, 1932, 1947, 1956, 1958, 2003).
The Grizzlies lost in the quarterfinals in 2006, but are making their fourth title-game appearance in eight season.
This year marks Logan's fourth double-digit-win season in eight years.
Both Judge and Logan are in their 14th state title game. Only seven schools have been in more times. And only four schools have won more championship games than Judge (Skyline, 14, Millard, 13, East, 12, and Jordan, 11).
Series history: Logan leads the series 2-1. For some reason, these two teams met twice during the regular season in 1988 - the only time they've met before this season - and Logan won both. This year, Judge whipped the Grizzlies 35-7 on Sept. 7 in Logan.
Coaches:
Judge's James Cordova is in his fifth season and has a 30-26 (.536) record, including a 4-3 (.571) playoff mark. He's gradually turned Bulldogs around from 2-8 his first season to 6-5 his third to 9-3 last year and 10-2 in ‘07.
Logan's Mike Favero is 77-37 (.675) in his ninth year and won state titles in 2000, his second season, and 2005. He's 18-6 (.750) in postseason games, 2-1 in championship contests, defeating Pine View 56-21 in 2005 and Highland 14-0 in 2000 while losing to Bountiful 21-13 in 2003.
Head-to-head: Cordova leads 1-0.
