The Hawks and third-year coach Les Hamilton are in their second straight championship game.
Layton: 40th season; 23rd playoff appearance (18-21); 1 championship (1978); last title game: 1978; championship game record: 1-2 (lost in 1969, 1971).
Both teams have won 12 games in a season for the first time and both are riding 11-game winning streaks. Last year, Alta won 11 straight before losing to Bingham in the finals, while Layton has tied its school-record, 11-game winning streak set in 1969.
Series history: Alta leads the series 3-2, but they haven't met since the 1990 regular season when Alta won 20-14. They first played in ‘79 when Layton ousted the Hawks in a quarterfinal battle, 47-21, then played four regular-season games from 1987-90.
Coaches: Les Hamilton is 32-8 (.800) at Alta and 46-19 (.708) overall including two seasons at Grantsville. He's 8-2 (.800) in the postseason at Alta and 11-4 (.733) overall. He's 0-1 in championship games.
Layton's Jim Batchelor, in just his third season, is 19-15 (.559) and 3-1 (.750) in two playoff appearances. He turned Layton around from a 4-8 record in ‘06 to 12-1 this year, an improvement of 7.5 games, which leads the state this season. This is his first title game.

Player Notes:
Alta's Sausan Shakerin has rushed for 3,323 career yards and 42 touchdowns. (Not close to the state records of 5,663 and 70, but he is Alta's leading rusher.) He's also caught four TD passes and returned a kickoff for a touchdown, so he's scored 47 TDs in two years.
Layton's QB, Gaving Green, has tossed 33 TD passes, 19 this season, and rushed for four more, including a pair this year. As a two-year starter, he's been responsible for 37 touchdowns.
