One day after Jeff Myaer made the bold move to start Keenyn Walker, his No. 3 pitcher, against Canyon View, he threw Joe Pond at Juan Diego and watched as the senior shut down one of the best offenses in Class 3A. Simply put, pitching is the great equalizer in baseball, especially high school baseball.
If you have it, you stand a chance -- in a tournament setting -- of going a long way, and outlasting teams with more shoddy pitching staffs. If you don't have great pitching, you had better have the ability to score 20 runs a game, and even that's not a sure thing, because the law of averages dictates that bats go dry at some point.
In the land of pitching, Judge has it, has more of it than any other team in Class 3A, and it will probably win the state title today because of it.
