Baseball: Utah signs six, including two locals
Two high school baseball stars from Utah are among the six student-athletes who have signed to play baseball for the University of Utah, coach Bill Kinneberg announced this week.
"The last two recruiting classes are as good as we have ever had," Kinneberg said.
The Utahns are Brock Duke, a right handed pitcher and infielder at Spanish Fork High, and Zach Adams, a right handed pitcher at Cottonwood.
Duke, from Salem, was a Tribune 5A all-stater last spring. He batted .323 and went 6-1 on the mound for the Dons last year and carries a 3.7 GPA.
"Brock is the best baseball player in the state of Utah. He just knows how to play the game. He is a quality pitcher but can play almost any position on the field," Kinneberg said.
Adams, from West Jordan, was an honorable mention all-stater last year, and a second-team all-region pick. He helped the Colts win the state championship and was named to the all-tournament team.
"Zach has a chance to be a tremendous pitcher when he is finished here. His potential is off the charts," Kinneberg said.
The Utes also signed:
* Rick Anton, a left handed pitcher from Yavapai Junior College.
* Cam Schiller, an infielder from Yavapai Junior College.
* Tyler Wagner, an infielder from Bishop Gorman High in Las Vegas.
* Kevin Ponzo, a right handed pitcher from San Dimas High in California.
