Corner commits to the Utes
The Utah Utes have apparently found a sufficient recruiter to replace assistant Aaron Roderick. Ray Magee, a receiver from Fullerton College in Calif., who committed to the Utes recently, has helped sway teammate Conroy Black into committing to the Utes.
Black, a 6-1, 180-pound corner, committed to Utah Tuesday.
Black committed to Oregon State in November, but had second thoughts and decided Utah was a better fit after looking at several schools.
"I saw how hard they were working to get me," he said. "Being No. 2 in the nation helped too. I know they've got a lot of big-time players coming and I wanted to keep that going."
Magee, who was recruited by Roderick, also encouraged him.
"I told him about my visit and that he should look at it," Magee said. "I liked it there a lot."
Magee said his plans won't change even with Roderick going to Washington.
"I'm still coming," he said.
Black should help fill the void that remains with Sean Smith's decision to go to the NFL. He is the third junior college corner the Utes will welcome for the 2009 season. The Utes already have signed Kamaron Yancy (Pierce College, Calif.) and Maxwell Lacy (Compton College, Calif.)
Another school that heavily recruited Black was SMU. Former Utah assistant Derrick Odum was in charge of his recruiting.
