Football: Where Snow College's top players are heading
Snow College has become a go-to place for Division I college football recruiters the past several years, with the junior college Badgers annually sending a dozen or so players on to four-year schools.
Although coach Steve Coburn had a team that played in the juco national championship game last December, Snow had a below average year when it came time to producing guys who are moving on to four-year programs.
That is because Snow is usually a factory for offensive and defensive linemen, and last year most of the starting linemen were freshmen. Coburn says that "on paper" next year's team could be better than the 2007 and 2008 teams that played for national titles.
Here's a rundown on the members of the 2008 Snow team that are moving on to bigger programs:
* Tight end Peter Tuipuloto (Mountain View) committed to Washington State, but has decided to go on an LDS Church mission instead.
* Quarterback Jon Eastman (Hillcrest) signed with Colorado State.
* Defensive end James Aiono (Murray) signed with Utah.
* Twin brothers Travis and Trent Barney (Orem) signed with Southern Utah. The Barney's older brother played for BYU.
* Defensive back Jordan Brown (Box Elder) signed with Weber State.
* Offensive lineman Parker Erickson (Alta), defensive back Joey Schrader (Riverton) and defensive lineman Nick Zundel (Bear River) turned down some D-I offers to walk on at Utah State.
* Defensive end Mike Laloni (Hunter), linebacker Isi Filimoeatu (Hunter) and kicker Joe Phillips (Lone Peak) will walk on at Utah.
