Women's basketball: West Jordan's Rodriguez, six others sign with Dixie State
Dixie State College in St. George has signed seven players to its women’s basketball program, including one player from Utah and another who played junior college basketball in the Beehive State.
West Jordan’s Gabrielle Rodriguez was one of coach Angela Kristensen’s seven signings. The Red Storm also signed two players last November during the early signing period.
A 5-foot-5 point guard, Rodriguez was a 5A all-state honorable mention honoree as a senior. She averaged 7.0 points and 7.1 assists for the Jaguars last season.
“Gabby is someone who we feel slid under the radar as far as recruiting goes,” said Kristensen. “We saw her at our camp last summer and loved her game. She is an extremely heady point guard that sees the floor well. Along with her passing abilities, Gabby is a great outside shooter and can also get to the rim off the dribble.”
The other players signing with DSC were: Na’Chelle Catron (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Amber Scruggs (Los Angeles, Calif.), Veronica Siqueros (Phoenix, Ariz.), Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, Nev.), Vajae Robinson (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Chanel Maxey (Anaheim, Calif.)
Siqueros played the last two seasons at the College of Eastern Utah in Price. She averaged seven points a game for the Golden Eagles.

Westminster’s women’s soccer program signed three athletes to NAIA letters of intent for the 2009 season recently.
Megan Maldonado, Jennifer Prescott, and Nicole Taylor have all signed to join the Griffins in the fall for the third season of women’s soccer at Westminster.
Maldonado played for Draper’s Juan Diego High last fall and helped the Soaring Eagle go 14-4.
Taylor played at Waterford School in Sandy and spent the 2007 season at Penn State, but appeared in just one game. She was the 2A/1A MVP at Waterford her senior season.
