Football: Minnesota beats BYU for juco safety from California
One of the junior college football players the BYU Cougars were targeting to replace Shiloah Te’o in the secondary has committed to Minnesota.
Christyn Lewis, a defensive back at Citrus Community College in Glendora, Calif., picked the Gophers after a campus visit last weekend, according to the Web site JCfootball.com.
BYU offered Lewis a scholarship a few weeks ago, the Web site totalbluesports.com reported recently.
BYU is looking for a safety to replace Te’o, who was kicked off the team last month when it became known he had been arrested on suspicion of DUI charges in August.
Lewis, a sophomore, made 33 tackles and had five pass breakups as a freshman. He has 33 tackles and one interception this season.
