Basic training
A Iraq war vet has won Utah the dubious honor of getting on a very special list. You'll find Twenty-seven-year-old Walter Smith in the New York Times database of veterans who returned from overseas to kill on the homefront.

Walter Smith drowned his girlfriend, Nicole Speirs in a bathtub at their Tooele home in 2006. He is serving up to 15 years for the crime that deprived their two children of a mother.

Smith was discharged from the military because of post-traumatic stress disorder brought on by combat in Iraq.

One of the many ghosts of the Internet is Speir's MySpace page, where a message from Smith lingers on. Smith has his own MySpace page complete with rubber duckies and friends worried about his whereabouts -- not too creepy.

But it's outright macabre that the site includes this banner under "interests":
