Brother Deportee
Conservative Mormon lawmakers who are itching to crack down on illegal immigrants risk lashing out against thousands of their brethren (and sisteren), according to a story by Peggy Fletcher Stack in today's Tribune.
Fletcher offers the back story to the LDS Church's recent plea to lawmakers fo
r compassion on immigration issues. The predominately Mormon Utah Legislature is considering several bills that would make life for undocumented residents tougher and facilitate their arrest and deportation.
But have they looked down the road to deporting their first LDS bishop or stake president?
It's a real possibility, according to Rebecca van Uitert, a New York immigration attorney who was a LDS missionary in southern California.
This uniquely Mormon conundrum also is on the national stage, where Mitt Romney calls for tough immigation and English-only policies. With a true chutzpah, Romney is producing Spanish-language ads to win over Florida Latinos.

"I look back on dozens of people we taught and baptized, and I personally can't think of one who did have legal status," van Uitert says. "There were even some undocumented bishops and stake presidents. Basically, everyone was undocumented."

We need to rescue as many mexicans as we can from the Church of the Devil
"It is also to the Book of Mormon to which we turn for the plainest description of the Catholic Church as the great and abominable church. Nephi saw this 'church which is the most abominable above all other churches' in vision. He 'saw the devil that he was the foundation of it' and also the murders, wealth, harlotry, persecutions, and evil desires that historically have been a part of this satanic organization. (1 Nephi 13:1-10)" - Mormon Doctrine, p. 130 (1958)
"Harlots. See Church of the Devil, Sex Immorality. Literally a harlot is a prostitute; figuratively it is any apostate church. Nephi, speaking of harlots in the literal sense and while giving a prophetic description of the Catholic Church, recorded that he 'saw the devil that he was the foundation of it.' ... Then speaking of harlots in the figurative sense, he designated the Catholic Church as 'the mother of harlots' (1 Nephi 13:34; 14:15-17), a title which means that the protestant churches, the harlot daughters which broke off from the great and abominable church, would themselves be apostate churches." - Mormon Doctrine, pp. 314-315 (1958)
Sure, baker. Because we all know Mormon Doctrine (1958) is official church policy. Right?
Actually there was a formal apology made for that statement and is known by members of the church that it is not actual church doctrine.
