Can you afford your lawmaker?
Bob Bernick and Lee Davidson have an extraordinary story in the DNews today.

Even though 2007 was not an election year, Utah Legislators collected $827,000 in campaign funds from lobbyists. Only a tiny fraction of it came from within their districts.

Gee, what to do with all that cash when you don't have any campaign expenses? Spend it on yourself, of course.

As Davidson and Bernick explain:

With no campaigns last year, lawmakers converted about a third of that cash to what appear to be personal or other uses that have little to do with campaigning...

According to the DNews analysis, the bozos spent the cash on travel, Jazz games, new clothes, dry cleaning, car repairs, passports, baby-sitting, snacks, parking tickets, baby and wedding gifts... let me get a breath here... candy and even repaying themselves for lost income while representing you.

Provo Rep. Becky Lockhart, right, gave $5,000 to hubby Stan to get him elected Utah GOP chairman. It's all about family values.

The best part of the article is that the DNews boys name names. It might be a good time to look up who represents you. Give 'em a call.

Who knows? Maybe they'll buy you something nice.

The sad thing--and most outrageous--is that all the stories in the world can surface about these self-centered, conflicted moneygrubbers. BUT VOTERS DO NOT CARE. THEY KEEP SENDING THEM BACK.

When will people wake up?
