"I deserved what I got..."
The Tribune's Nate Carlisle today offers an intimate view of a kid who made a very bad mistake.
Mackenzie Hunter, violated federal law to sell a .38 Cal. Smith & Wesson to co-worker Sulejman Talovic, a minor. Last winter, Talovic used the revolver to kill Vanessa Quinn at Trolley Square. Talovic also used a shotgun he bought at a pawn shop to kill four other people in the wor
st blood-bath in recent Utah history.
Talovic was obsessed with owning a gun, Hunter said. "Looking back, I guess I should have taken that as a sign of something."
Twenty-year-old Hunter, left, talked to Carlisle before his transfer to a federal prison where he will spend the next year. The sale was illegal because Talovic was a minor.
"It was a really horrible thing to be involved with," Hunter told Carlisle. "I deserved what I got — definitely."
In December, Westley Wayne Hill pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for selling Sulejman Talovic the shotgun without checking for proper identification.
