In his dad's footsteps

Mitt Romney made a campaign stop today at a Florida Martin Luther King Jr. parade.

It had to be a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't decision for Mitt. In a state with the minority population of Florida, a candidate — even a conservative Republican — has to participate in the King celebration.

On the other hand, Mitt's showing up at any King gathering only reminds voters of that baloney about his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney, having actually marched with MLK himself. It was later shown that Mitt must have had his own dream — in which his dad and Dr. King linked arms to fight racial discrimination in Detroit — because it did not happen.

Still, Romney was greeted warmly by an African-American crowd in Jacksonville.

But Mitt, being Mitt, had to try to be "authentic" in his trademark robotic way. “Who let the dogs out?” he yelled to some black teens, apropos of nothing. “Who! Who!
