Informin' on Mormons
As Mitt moves through the primaries, the scrutiny on Mormonism and Utah increases.

John Sutherland of London's New Standard discusses "the religion Mitt Romney may bring to the White House." As is often the case, the view from a distance is more insightful than the local analysis.

"Here's a challenge. Think of a famous Mormon - apart from the one who may well be the most powerful man in the world, come next November. No shame in being stumped. There's a good reason that Mormons are the invisible Americans. Mormons are scarred by persecution, and it has made them very shy...

Persecution is the scar that all Mormons carry. The enemy is always there, and wise believers keep out of his way. "

Sutherland points out that the most famous Mormon artistic entity is a choir without named soloists. " 'Mormon celebrity' is a contradiction in terms," he says. (Bad news for Donny and Marie.)

Then, he challenges his Brit readers to a short quiz:
1. Who is the most famous Mormon Hollywood actor?

2. The most famous Mormon film director?

3. The most famous Mormon novelist?

How many Utahns would pass?

Check back at noon for the answers.

I am studying about joining the local Morman church and I am finding that they are the most caring people. The elders that are visiting me are special people. I had one family even volunteer to go to another town to move some of my things to me new apartment when I couldn't even get my family to do it for me. I have never had someone from my hometown church to even visit or call me since I moved.Y

Steve Young, Donny Osmond, Orin Hatch, Glenn Beck, Orson Scott Card.

From the Past: Jack Anderson, Reed Smoot, Ezra Taft Benson, David Kennedy

I could go on but my fingers are tired.

Orson Scott Card is absolutely brilliant. Enders game and the complete series is a must read for anybody. My grandmother who is 93 years old read the whole series and was capitivated by it. Whether you are a Morman or Non-Morman does not matter. He simply is the best.
