Struggles on the Hill
The Utah Legislature's grand opening in the newly refurbished Capitol was hit with the double whammy of a severe snow storm — delaying the opening ceremonies -- and minor mechanical hangups.

Capitol Architect Dave Hart found himself reduced to "building super," as he hustled from chamber to chamber, fixing glitches. A tool belt would have been helpful.

In the Senate, problems cropped up with the new chairs. To the left of the podium in the above photo, you can see officials trying to fix the clerk's chair. Majority leader Curt Bramble— as President John's Valentine's mighty hammer and GOP float chairman — stopped by to kibitz, right. Apparently, the return to the august Senate chamber has a soothing effect on Bramble — the chair repair didn't turn into a brawl.
