A Hillary happy hour
Blogging from Port O' Call in Salt Lake City
Pool tables, loud music, raucous people and alcohol. Being thrown out of Mitt Romney's somber insurance office headquarters ain't so bad. Hillary Clinton's folks know how to run a election night HQ.
Salt Lake County Council member Jenny Wilson tells me that she feels confident about the situation, even though Hillary and Obama are too close t
o call at this point. "Tomorrow both candidates will still be viable."
And that's not so bad, Wilson says,"After the last debate, I came away just proud to be a Democrat." Obama and Hillary had put away their earlier rancor and "I felt really great about both candidates."
Wilson, who lost to Ralph Becker in her run for mayor, says she understands some of the pressure on Hillary. "As a woman, I know there was a lens on me that was different than for male candidates."
"You have to set gender aside. You have to set race aside," Wilson says. But, "All things being equal, being a woman, you go for a woman."
Hillary's poor showing in Utah is due to the state's conservative moral standards, Wilson says. "She's suffering in this state from challenges posed by her husband late in his term of office," she says. "(Utahns) should give them credit for staying together."
Arlyn Bradshaw, 27, represents the demographic that has become a battlefield for Clinton and Obama — young, male professionals. "I won't deny Obama's optimism, and he is inspiring," he says. "But Hillary's ready to be president from day one."

Is there anyone more stupid in Utah politics than Jenny Wilson? Read that quote again:
'"As a woman, I know there was a lens on me that was different than for male candidates."'
Okay, you lost cuz men hate women candidates, right? I think that's what you mean. Maybe you are right Jenny.
'"You have to set gender aside. You have to set race aside," Wilson says.' Preach on, Jenny! Let's drop the gender and race politics. Good for you.
'"All things being equal, being a woman, you go for a woman."' What the fuck? So, wait, you lost because you are a woman, but now, you go for Hillary because you are a woman? You are perpetuating the same problem that you claim doomed you in the mayor's race.
Jenny, you didn't lose because you are a woman. You lost because you are a walking contradiction who can't put together a coherent thought.
