Lockdown at Mitt's HQ
Blogging from (outside) Romney Headquarters in Sandy

I just got thrown out of Romney HQ. No kidding. I've covered a lot of campaigns in the last couple decades and that's never happened before.

The buttoned-down wonk-in-charge — think of Phillip Seymour Hoffman in The Big Lebowski — told me he had gotten orders from Massachusetts to not let me interview Mitt's supporters and, well, toss me. The media had apparently overstayed its welcome. The mug wouldn't identify himself. "I don't want my name on your blog."

Outside, I run into Senate President John Valentine, who is shocked at Mitt's media unfriendliness. "I can't believe it," Valentine said. "That doesn't make sense. You want the media around on election nights."

(Valentine told me I am welcome in his HQ anytime when he runs for governor. Whatta guy.)

I've got to wonder what this concept of media relations portends for a Mitt White House.

Despite the high security, I was able to talk to Eric Langhorst, a Romney supporter. He was concerned with Mitt's poor showing. "I think everyone is waiting for California," he says, adding the sentiment of just about everyone here. "I wish Huckabee would drop out."

"He's battling on so many fronts," says Tracey Parry (above, left), referring to the ganging up on Mitt by the other candidates and the media. "But we are not giving up."

Molly Ford (right) said Romney's attitude is keeping them going. "He's great. He's positive and he's not giving up."

Ford and Parry (did I mention they were Romney supporters yet still terrific human beings?) say if Mitt is knocked out of the race, "We've decided we won't vote," Ford said.

But Langhorst and Valentine agree such loyalty is silly. "You coalesce around the Republican leader," Langhorst says.

Still, Parry says, no other Republican meets her conservative standards.
