Armed and asinine
The Tribune's Robert Gehrke reports that lawmakers who carry concealed handguns on the floor have been wearing a six-pointed star lapel pin at the Utah Legislature — just to let fellow members of the "in-crowd" know they are packing heat.Says Gehrke: "One pin - an innocuous looking red oval with a gold, six-pointed star in the center - has its own special message: I'm packing a gun."
Like the semi-auto pistol in their belt, the meaning of the pin is an open secret that the wearers don't like to discuss. "I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you," Rep. Curt Oda answered Gehrke's inquiry about the pin. (Actually, the Clearfield gun freak should have to wear two pins—a second for the "back-up" pistol in his ankle holster.)
Rep. Carl Wimmer, a former cop, apparently has tired of the game. "I had one for a while, but then I stopped wearing it because everyone knows what it is." But the gun is still in place under his coat.

I always say that to understand the obsession with gunz in Utah, substitute the word "penis" for the word "gun" in any story. You've got this big, hard, life changing rod in your pants, jerk that trigger and Oh Yeah! Was it good for you too? See how it all makes sense when you do that?
