Dino hunting
The backlash against Chris Buttars for his homophobic and racially charged comments continues. But his opponents are reduced to what might be called the last resort of the powerless — satire. After all, despite Buttars humiliation following revelations he used Senate stationary to rip a state judge for ruling against a friend and his disgrace for spewing racial malapropisms, GOP leaders backed up the West Jordan Republican as a "good man." More to the point, Buttars' anti-domestic registry bill is sailing through the Legislature. (Another sponsor is carrying it, but everyone knows it is Buttars' Bill to fight the "gay agenda.")
Even a small nod to the gay community in the form of an amendment to guarantee hospital visiting rights to domestic partners was stripped from the bill.
What was left for the liberal community to do, besides goof on the old dinosaur? Case in point: The cover of this week's QSaltLake weekly is adorned with an artist's conception, above, of Buttars' evolutionary predecessor. And another blogger, j-man, is sending out an invitation to a Buttars' April 1 birthday bash/fundraiser:
Attire: Wear any costume of your choice, but door prizes will only be awarded to those in black-face and white robes.Yet another blog has outted Buttars' great grandfather as an undocumented immigrant.
