Noel bullies SUWA, again
State Rep. Mike Noel is up to his old environmentalist-baiting again. This time Noel is calling a press conference at lunchtime today to demand the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance open it's books to lawmakers.

Noel has gotten a letter signed by 45 other lawmakers giving SUWA a month to open its financial records "for evaluation of whether or not SUWA funds were inappropriately converted or misused in any way." Two former SUWA officials pleaded guilty to securities fraud last fall.

Earlier in the session, Noel used his muscle to kill a water conservation bill simply because it was supported by the Utah Rivers Council, which he accused of being a SUWA ally. He got the bill passed after the group removed its name from it.

Last month, SUWA staff attorney Steve Bloch was humiliated in a committee meeting when his truthfullness was doubted by Sen. Margie Dayton. She demanded he be sworn in. Pro-development witnesses did not have to suffer the indignity.

Rumors that Noel made Bloch give him his lunch money, however, are not true.

Thank all the gods that this session is over and these small-minded yokels can deflate their massive egos and go back to their pastures. I'll bet the Utah Travel Council just cringes and drinks heavily throughout the legislative session, while these clowns make a laughingstock of the entire state. It really says something about the Utah school system that it's products continue to vote these idiots into office year after year. Maybe we need, I don't know, vouchers for private schools! Yeah, that's it! What? Oh, never mind.
