Poltergeist syndrome
Was Eagle Mountain built on top of an Indian burial ground or something?

Every time I pick up the paper, it seems something sleazy or wicked is going on in that godforsaken corner of Utah County.
The Mountain has gone through nine mayors in a dozen years. Former town officials have dabbled in the usual graft and misuse of public funds. But one former mayor faked his own kidnapping.

The town's new mayor Heather Jackson made a unusual promise in January when she was sworn in — I won't be arrested, booked or indicted. It's an unusual oath, but in the case of this subdivision masquerading as a community, it probably should be engraved on the side of City Hall.

Now, Jackson's former opponent for mayor, Richard Culbertson and his wife, Kathleen, have been charged with multiple counts of fraud. (Jackson, remember, only pro
mised that she wouldn't get indicted.) State authorities allege the couple concocted a mortgage-fraud scam in which they hired people to use their names and credit ratings to buy property. Allegedly, the duo also lied about their income, forged names and and misused home loans.

Culbertson complained the investigation was politically motivated because he spoke out against unscrupulous developers and land speculators. Another Eagle Mountain resident, John Jacob, who ran in 2006 for Congress, was briefly famous for saying his campaign was thwarted by Satan. Maybe he was on to something.

Still, the creepiest Eagle Mountain story is that of the resident who committed suicide last fall by shooting himself after flying off in a motorized parachute. Tell me something evil isn't lurking under that town.

Ha ha, this is just what I always say! What is it about that place? It's the middle of nowhere, maybe people just get bored or something, or it's the frustration of sitting in all that traffic to get there. It's ironic that people would move away from the city to get the small town lifestyle--I guess that's why people go there, that and cheap houses--and end up with the worst sort of bad government and mayhem going on. Eagle Mountain makes Glendale look like Ozzie and Harriet!
