"Colossal Mistake" in Eldorado?
Anti-polygamy activist Flora Jessop says the raid on the FLDS compound near Eldorado, Tex., a "colossal mistake." For one thing, she says, authorities have identified the wrong man as the "husband" of a 16-year old girl whose call triggered the raid.

She fears the operation against the polygamist sect will turn into a chaotic mess, like the 1953 Short Creek Raid, in which Arizona authorities took approximately 263 women and children into custody, but failed to stamp out polygamy.

Another problem she told the Tribune, is that the women and children who have been rounded up won't give authorities the information they need to begin prosecution — names of fathers, dates of births, ages.
First of all, they are all terrified they are going to hell if they talk to anybody. They've been taught their entire lives not to reveal who their mother is, who their father is. It's part of the culture of secrecy. And secrecy breeds isolation.
Jessop left the sect when she was 16 and has spent the past decade helping teens and women trying to leave the FLDS church.

This whole thing is a mess of gigantic proportions. However, what on earth can we do to stamp out this patriarchal abomination that is nothing short of wicked? The poor women and girls and young men caught in the hell-hole are to be pitied. It is nothing short of mental and physical abuse that has gone on for so long that even the victims themselves don't recognize what they are having to put up with. So sad!!

Now that we have decided to purify America, we should raid, seize, and breakup all organized religions for child abuse, brainwashing, and perversion. Circumcision is child abuse and gives us the right to conduct broad searches and arrests of all who have conducted this in all Christian churches, Jewish synagogues, and Muslim mosques. Muslims also offend with polygamy. Hindu temples need to be raided for showing pornographic images and text to children. Non-demonimational children are subjected to pressure for body piercing. African religions expose children to animal abuse. The list is endless. To purify America and protect children we need to destroy all organized religions.

Now THAT is the best idea I've heard all day.

I know you're being sarcastic, but you have no idea how wonderful your idea really is. Religion is responsible for a host of misdeeds and perversions. I'd say that forcefully stamping it out would be the way to go, but it looks as if religion increasingly will become irrelevant as science, reason, and common sense become more accepted. Drive a stake through the heart of this superstitious crap.

Kudos to Texas for doing the right thing. Kids were being abused--that warrants a raid. This namby pamby Utah approach to polygamy ("Leave 'em alone, after all, we're all related to polygamists somehow") is nothing short of criminal. If you take that stance, you might as well be the best man handing off a 15-year old girl to a 60 year old man. You're just as guilty.
