A queer impulse
In a letter to the Tribune, Troy Williams explores one of the mystifying and tragic aspects of people who, for one reason or another, find themselves on the outs with the Mormon Church. Why can't they just get on with their lives? In this case, Williams questions the the gay-Mormon group Affirmation's excitement over being granted a meeting with a couple low-level LDS leaders.
Why do the abused continually seek acceptance from their abusers? It reminds me of the battered wife constantly going back to her abusive husband.
The LDS Church will politely listen, remind them of Heavenly Father's love and Affirmation will leave just feeling happy to be heard. That is, until the church again mobilizes its members in support of more anti-gay legislation. Wham! Another black eye.

Don't knock it 'til you've been there. An abuse victim--whether the abuser is a spouse, parent, or church authority--desperately needs approval from those they love. They will return to an abuser in a vain attempt to gain that approval. And yes, they will receive a black eye and more heartbreak for their efforts.
props to Williams for laying it out as it is. The Church gets off on it's power trip. Gays owe them nothing. I wish more people had the courage to stand up and speak truth. May the LDS Church become less relevant every day.
Troy Williams has been spouting off his queer propaganda for years now. And no matter how defiant and liberated he thinks he is, the sorry truth is that he's living a DAMNED lie. Our community will not tolerate the homosexual lifestyle and we won't allow our children to be subjected to it. The Lord's prophet has spoken. Troy defies them at his own peril.
Gee, I hope Iron Rodd is a pseudonym. Perhaps it is what he (or she?) will punish Gay people with. It could be taken in another context however, and that could be titillating to some of us. Perhaps it is an unconscious manifestation -- psychologist frequently aver that homophobia is a characteristic of some who are suppressing their true instincts.
Iron Rodd, huh? Let me think, let me think, I need to get to the pharmacy, but for what? Oh now I remember, I need to get my Viagra prescription refilled. Thanks for the reminder Rodd.
