Rise of hate?
Residents of the Mesa, Arizona, fear their community is turning into a breeding ground for hate crimes against Latino immigrants and Mormons.
At a community meeting that followed an attack on two teens apparently because they are Mormon, Bill Strauss of the Anti-Defamation League, said he is concerned about mounting animosity toward Latinos and a dormant prejudice against LDS members:

I’m scared to death of what might happen in Arizona. This is America; this isn’t supposed to happen here. This is the legacy we have been left with — unfortunately it is oftentimes not true,”In the recent incident, which police are investigating as a hate crime, two teenagers had carved swastikas into their wrists. The duo later shot at two Mormon teenagers with pellet guns, then beat them, sending one to the hospital.
